Question

I worked for a company 2 months, then began collecting SSA retirement payments. How do I determine if I owe Federal Income Tax?

The only way to determine if you will receive a tax refund or have federal taxes owed is to enter your tax data from the W-2 and SSA-1099 into the 2019 tax return.

Up to 85% of Social Security Retirement/Disability/Survivors benefits becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security reaches:

  • Married Filing Jointly - $32,000
  • Single or Head of Household - $25,000
  • Married Filing Separately - 0
