If you only get SS or SSDI or a SSA-1099 you do not need to file a return.  There are no federal credits you can get.  The rules have changed back to before 2021.  You only need to file to get back any withholding taken out.

If the Social Security benefits are your only income in 2022 and you do not have federal income taxes withheld from the benefits you do not need to file a 2022 tax return.

Generally it may be to your benefit to file 1040 and state return even if you don't have to.
