If my child received social security last year, that means i should check the box that says I received social security

No.   You do not enter your child's Social Security on your own tax return.  Someday if your child has other income--like from an after school job--and is filing a tax return, they will include the SSA1099 for that year on their own tax return.  Otherwise, it does not get entered anywhere.
