If your entire annual pension plan distribution is withheld for taxes, you should still report the distribution as your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).

     Here’s what you need enter:

    1. Report the Distribution: Enter the total amount of your pension distribution as your RMD in TurboTax. Even if the entire amount was withheld for taxes, it still counts as your RMD.
    2. Check Form 1099-R:
      • Box 1: Shows the total amount of your pension distribution.
      • Box 4: Shows the federal income tax withheld.

Here is how you can import, enter or upload your 1099-R related to your RMD, or manually enter the information yourself.

Here's how to navigate to the 1099-R section:

    • Be sure you are logged into TurboTax for link below to work.
    • TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to 1099-R.
    • TurboTax Desktop: Select Search Topics. Search for and select 1099-R.
