Question

If Social Security was my only income, and it was $27,305, do I have to file federal? What about South Carolina?

If your ONLY income for 2021 was Social Security you are not required to file a federal tax return.  SC does not tax Social Security.

You would only need to file a federal return for 2021 if you had marketplace health insurance for which you received a 1095A, or if you did not get the 3rd EIP payment of $1400 last year.   If you did not get the $1400 then file a 2021 return to use the recovery rebate credit to get that.

Are you married, and did your spouse have income?
