Question

IRA to Roth conversion

I made a IRA to Roth conversion in 2023. I received a 1099R and entered this information in as I stepped through the steps. TT is not adding this conversion amount in as taxable income. 1040 box 4a has the amount and  ROLLOVER but box 4b is zero. This amount seems to be incorrectly not being added into our taxable income.

It seems you entered this as a rollover instead of conversion. Please review the instructions below:

  1. Click on "Search" on the top right and type “1099-R”
  2. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  3. Click "Continue" and enter the information from your 1099-R
  4. Answer questions until you get to “Tell us if you moved the money through a rollover or conversion” and choose “I converted some or all of it to a Roth IRA
