keeps asking where my wife inherited her retirement plans from. She didn't inherit them! She earned them from the state. Why is it asking this? I can't go any further!!

If you are asking about the question that asks, "Did [wife] inherit the IRA from [financial institution]," this horribly worded question in TurboTax is asking if the IRA is inherited. It is not asking who the IRA was inherited from under the assumption that the IRA was inherited (even though a plain reading suggests exactly that). Read this question as asking "Did [wife] inherit the IRA that is held at [financial institution],"
