My wife, now 70 1/2, retired a few years ago. She is receiving monthly payments from the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS). I have contacted KPERS concerning the the amount of her RMD & have been informed that the KPERS fund is not the type of investment account that can provide a end of year amount. So I can not calculate the actual RMD. When I answer "Yes" to the question in Turbo Tax "Was this a withdrawal an RMD", I have to enter the 1) the entire amount was an RMD or 2) what portion of the payment received that was the RMD. Without knowing the RMD, what amount should I use. The entire amount of the distribution or guess at the portion that is the RMD?

These are, by law, required distributions, so the distribution is all RMD.

TurboTax only asks the question to determine how much of the distribution is eligible to be rolled over.  Since none of this pension distribution is eligible for rollover, none should have been rolled over and it doesn't matter how you answer this RMD question.
