Question

Massachusetts Tax on Box 14

My son got a bill from the State of Massachusetts because TurboTax did not include the amount from W-2 Box 14 as income for the MA State return.  He had selected Other from the drop down.  We reran his taxes using the option of MA Retirement and Turbo tax still did not include it as income subject to tax.  This amount is identified as Retirement on the W-2.

I expect this will be a problem for years 2023 and 2022 as well.  This needs to be resolved.

Better check with your employer.  The total taxable amount comes from W2 box 1 for federal and box 16 for state.  Is box 16 filled out wrong?  Box 14 are usually for deductions.  Your employer can put anything they want in box 14.
