my military service retirement is not taxable in Alabama, why doesn't turbo tax know this?

    Because TurboTax doesn't know that the pension you just entered is military retirement - you have to tell it that.

     

    1. Make sure that your state of residence is Alabama

    2. After you enter the numbers for the 1099-R, there should be a screen asking what the source of this distribution is.

    3. Answer military, and your pension will be partially or totally excluded.
