My employer listed more than I earned in Box 1 of my 1099-NEC. What do I do?

If the income reported on your Form 1099-NEC is incorrect, then you must get it corrected by the company that paid you.  They have submitted this same information to the IRS and the only way to correct it is through the issuer.  There is nothing you can do on your tax return to fix it.

 

As for your tax return, you can either estimate the taxes that you will owe (if any), file an extension for more time to file your return, and pay any balance due.  Then you can attempt to get the Form 1099-NEC corrected before completing your return.

 

Or, file your return with the Form 1099-NEC as it stands now and then amend your return later after the Form 1099-NEC has been corrected.,
