Question

My father, a retired military service member, passed away in 2019. In 2020, I got his final paycheck as his beneficiary. Is this taxable? Where would I put the income?

So sorry to hear of your loss.

Normally, the final check would be entered on the deceased income tax return for the year of death. Since you received it in the next year, it would go on an estate tax return if the amount is over $600. If so, you need to file a form 1041, Estate tax return, and list that income along with any other income from him received in 2020.
