Question

My Form 1099-G for Iowa Unemployment only has box numbers from 1 to 8...I need to enter info from boxes 10, 10a, 10b on my tax return, but I don't have that info.

If your Form 1099-G Unemployment did not have Boxes 10a, 10b or 11, it means that they did not withhold state taxes. In the Unemployment (1099-G) interview, you should be able to leave these boxes blank.

If the program is  requiring entries and will not let you continue without them, you can select your state (Iowa or IA) for 10a, any number for 10b (e.g. 99-9999999), and "$0" for Box 11.

My form has boxes 1-8 and an un-numbered box " Iowa Income Tax Withheld" with a dollar value listed.

The form is labeled: Statement for recipients of unemployment insurance compensation payments 65-5338(11-14) OMB No.1545-0120.

It will let me proceed but I'm not sure it is capturing the Iowa income tax withheld in the calculations.

HELP PLEASE

Be sure you entered the form 1099G in the "Unemployment" topic.  Within the topic verify you selected Iowa in box 10a and put in the IA withholding amount in box 11.  If your form has a state ID number that should go in box 10b if not enter the federal ID from your statement in box 10b.

You can view a summary of your IA return and check the "Total Credits" line where all withholding should show up.

  1. Select "Tax Tools" from the menu on the left side of the screen
  2. Next select "Tools" from the drop-down menu on the left side of the screen
  3. Then click "View Tax Summary" from the pop-up menu
  4. Lastly, click on "IA Tax Summary" from the menu on the left side of the screen
