Question

My husband and I both contributed to traditional IRAs, he is not covered by employer retirement account. Our AGI is less than 198k, can't we deduct his contribution?

Turbotax is saying because our combined income is more than 125k we can't deduct our IRAs. I am covered by a retirement account at work, he is not. What I'm reading on the IRA website is as long as our combined income is less than 198k we should be able to fully deduct his contributions but turbotax is saying we cannot. How do I fix this?

You are correct.

If your spouse is not covered by a retirement at work and you are covered, he can take a full IRA deduction but you cannot if your joint MAGI is more than $125k.

Please revisit his form W-2 and make sure that box 13 is not checked.

For your spouse who is not covered, please read this IRS document.

For you who are covered, please read this IRS document.

Thank you. Box 13 is not checked on my husbands W2. Is there another area I should be checking?

Try deleting your husband's W-2 and re-enter it, making sure that box 13 is not checked.
