Question

My RMD for 2024 was $407 but turbotax indicates $816 required. Seems like a glitch in the system. Can you help with this problem?

Charles Schab 1099R indicates $407 RMD taken. The turbo $816 seems like a duplication but I can't find a way to correct the problem.

There was an update to TurboTax which should correct this.  If you are using TurboTax online, you can just logon and the update should be applied.  If you are using the Desktop version, see Manually Update TurboTax for Windows Software.

please post again if it is still incorrect and we can investigate further.

I had the same problem and the software updated itself several times.  If there is a bug then the fix should correct the incorrect calculations.  These updates did not do that, it kept the original error.  If you know there is a bug then check to see if it had an impact on the return, don't just do a "We checked your return and everything was great".

Eventually, I deleted the origial 1099-R that TT duplicated and downloaded it again and the problem was "fixed", unfortunatly I had already filed the return with the error and TT support said it was my problem.  I guess I need to double check each and every calculation in TT to make sure it's not creating problems.  Nice design.

such modifications cause issues if you want to AMEND your tax return.

You must unwind back to the original incorrect tax return.

AMEND must start with the return as originally filed.

That may not be possible because, as you state, TurboTax no longer does it incorrectly.

In that case, prepare Form 1040-X manually and mail it.

    ----

Always print a copy of your completed tax return for your records, and review it carefully before e-Filing.
You will need it if you are audited by the IRS, to contact the IRS, or to amend if a TurboTax update changes your return or for any other reason,

AND, to find your AGI next year.
