To indicate that your MA state teacher pension is not taxable, please follow these steps:

    1. Go back to the 1099-R entry screen.
    2. In the State section, enter MA in the State ID box (box 13), even if there is no state withholding.
    3. A few screens later you should see the screen, Select Your State.
    4. Mark the box for Massachusetts and click Continue.
    5. On the screen, Massachusetts Special Handling About This 1099-R, mark the first radio button, Qualified government retirement distributions.
    6. Enter the MA distribution amount in the box (if it's not already there) and click Continue.
    7. Continue through the rest of the 1099-R screens.
    8. When you go through your MA return, the distribution will not be taxable. It will show on the
      Retirement/Pension Deduction Summary screen.
