Question

My W2 has INS in Box 12 for the code but Turbotax does not give that option in the drop down

    That is likely because your employer did not use a standardized code, so you will need to check with them to see what this stands for.  It may be for Insurance.  This is the list of IRS box 12 codes on page 12. 

     

    If it is insurance, you would likely see the same amount as a difference between your box 1 wages and box 3 wages, however, there are other items they could put in box 12 that would also cause the difference in wages between boxes 1 and 3.
