Question

On 2020 taxes, I spread my IRA distribution over three years. On my 2021 taxes, I can’t find the place to add 1/3 of that distribution to my income.

You will report this in the Retirement Plans and Social Security section under Wages & Income.  However, the Form 8915-F has not been finalized by the IRS for including in a 2021 tax return so the questions are not being asked until the form is available.  There is no estimate from the IRS when this form will be available, but guessing sometime in March 2022.

Thank you for the information. Yes, that answers my question. However, I am disappointed that Turbo Tax does not have a question related to this. It is as if that situation just doesn’t exist. It would be much better if Turbo Tax asked the question, and then said something like, “The correct form hasn’t been approved yet, you have to wait. Don’t blame us, blame the IRS. No, wait, blame the President! No, wait, blame Congress!”

If I had not been looking, Turbo Tax would have let me file an incorrect return. No matter who (or what) helps you with your taxes, compare with last year’s return, and question your helper.
