received Form SSA-1099 for O/A/O with my incorrect social security number.

I received Form SSA-1099 in my name O/A/O for my late mother. The payment was correct but my Social Security number is incorrect on the middle two digits. Each is off by a digit. I received my own SSA-1099 for my social security benefits and the social security number is correct. Can the incorrect number be amended while i am completing my 2024 taxes? This is the first year I will be completing my taxes with Social Security income.

Any help is appreciated

Yes, you can simply include both SSA-1099s with your tax return.  You can combine them in one entry by adding the boxes together for each entry box because TurboTax and the IRS are not expecting two for the same person.

You do not need to be concerned about the social security number (SSN) for your payment initiated from your late mother's account.  If the IRS should have a question later you will have the documents.  It's not likely they will since you are reporting more income.  It's possible it may not be taxable depending on your other taxable income.

Open your TurboTax Online/Mobile or TurboTax Desktop return:

    • Search (upper right) > type social security income > Click the jump to.. link > Enter your SSA-1099
    • Or Select Income and Expenses > Scroll to Retirement and Social Security > Select Social Security

    Please accept my sympathies.
