I lived and worked in NYS for 9 months in 2022 and I had a 401k through my employer. Then I retired and moved to Tennessee. I took a total distribution from my 401K in 2023.  My 1099-R says TN. even though my 401k and employer were from NYS. Is this a mistake?

If you lived in TN and that is where you were when you took the distribution, that is correct.

If you moved during 2023, you may need to file a Part-Year Resident return for both states.

You can allocate your income between the two states, according to time lived in each.

Here's more info on How to File a Part-Year Resident Return and Allocating Income for a Part-Year Resident.

Thank you. I corrected the years on my post. I entered wrong info. Will you let me know after you read my updated corrected question? Thanks
