Retired resident alien

My dad is a retired resident alien (green card holder). He does not currently live in US, but he still has a saving account. He does not have any other income here, only this interest off this high-yielding saving account. I wonder if that is anything he (or I as his daughter) has to report? Thank you!

If the interest is in your dads name, then you would not report it on your return.

If he still has a green card (not sure what you mean by retired) he would need to report the interest income if he has total income of more than his  standard deduction

Thank you for your help. Yes, he still has a valid green card. By retired, I mean, he does not have a job, literally retired, and no other income here in the US. Just this saving account. The account is in his name. And the interest is only about $500.00 .

No, he would not be required to file a tax return.

Here are the Filing Requirements for 2023.
