im retired and in a higher tax bracket than when i was working. I have roughly equal amounts in my existing IRA accounts. is it better for me to rollover from my roth or from my trad ira

I don't know that it is better to rollover from either. I think I would leave things exactly as they are. Unless you would like to just get all of the taxes out of the way in one really expensive year.

Rolling the Roth into the traditional doesn't make much sense. You would be stuck with taking the non-taxable money and making it become taxable. And you would not get a tax break for doing so.

Rolling the traditional into the Roth would mean paying taxes on the money all at once - probably at a higher tax rate than you would if you take it out over time.

So leaving things exactly as they are means that the withdrawals from the Roth stay non-taxable and the withdrawals from your traditional IRA stay taxable. It is still not a great deal but it is better than paying an awful lot of tax all at once.
