Hello,

I have 1099-r from  Roth IRA for $7250 which was used for Higher education fee for my daughter. I entered 1099-R details. I also have contribution of $8000 (over 50 year limit) to Roth IRA. As i took the distribution for higher education how do I show that in turbotax. I have code J in 1099-r . I have questions come up for first time home purchase , disaster relief but do not see any question related to higher education expense to record this as qualified distribution. I tried deleting adding 1099-r to make sure I am answering questions right. Also I have 1099-T from college. But I cannot enter as Turbotax as Income limit do not qualify for credit which I understand on education credit. My main question is how to show this roth-ira distrubiton as qualified for higher education. Any help is appreciated. I asked turbo tax live helo in the prudcat could not find right answer as one suggested to enter 1099-T but I cannot due to Turboxtax telling not qualfiied and do not give me option.

thanks a lot for any help

If you only withdrew your contributions then this isn't taxable and not subject to the 10% penalty. Therefore, you do not get the  "Did you use your IRA to pay for any of these expenses?" screen to enter the higher education expenses.
