Question

Should I amend my 2022 tax return to file Form 8606? I didn't answer the question about part of my traditional IRA taxable distribution being a ROTH conversion.

I efiled 2022 in TurboTax. This was my first year of doing a ROTH conversion. It was part of my fully taxable traditional IRA distribution.

Form 8606 is a stand alone form and can be filed without doing an amendment.

You can find prior year forms on the IRS website here.

The phone conversation with a TurboTax support person said I could use TurboTax to do an amended 2022 return which would generate the Form 8606 and mail, not e-file, it. I did this very easily and TurboTax nicely completed the 1049-X and Form 8606.  I had read mixed answers about filing the Form separately or no, and fret more comfortable filing it with the 1049-X, so TurboTax was very helpful.
