Should the CSA 1099-R Annuity income show on line 1h of Form 1040-ES instead of line 5b?

What code is in Box 7?

Did you double check that entry?

If the code in box 7 is 3 and you were under normal retirement age, line 1h is the correct line on which the income should appear.  Make sure that you have selected the correct code on TurboTax's form.

The CSA 1099-R annuity income should be reported on Line 5b of Form 1040, not on Line 1h of Form 1040-ES. Form 1040-ES is used for estimating and paying quarterly estimated taxes, while Form 1040 is the main tax return form where you report your income, including annuities.

CSA 1099-R, Statement of Annuity Paid, is a variation of the 1099-R form for Federal retirees. It’s used to report civil service retirement payments.

    To enter your CSA 1099-R:

    1. Open or continue your return.
    2. Navigate to the 1099-R section:
      • TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to 1099-R.
      • TurboTax Desktop: Search for 1099-R and select the Jump to link.
    3. On the Your 1099-R screen, select Yes and then Continue.
      • If you land on the Your 1099-R Entries screen instead, select Add Another 1099-R.
    4. At the import screen, select Type it in myself and then Continue.
    5. Select the CSA-1099-R option (verify the right spouse is selected, if applicable) and Continue to enter the information from your CSA 1099-R.

Thanks for your instructions, which I followed and entered the Annuity information as another 1099-R in the 1099-R section under two other 1099-R forms I am reporting for IRA account distributions.

The Annuity taxable amount still shows on Line 1h and not on line 5b of Form 1040as it has done for more than 10 years I have been filing taxes with Turbotax.

I am very disappointed with Turbotax.
