Question

Social Security

I can enter my social security, and it is correctly shown.  However, when I go to the summary page, the system adds about 7,000 to the total.  I've deleted and reentered, but the issue continues. However, the final tax calculation appears to use the correct amount that I entered.   I cannot see the details until I pay and file, but I'd like to be sure it is handling the information correctly before finalizing (and that I did not make a mistake).  I also note a difference of about $870 between my worksheet calculation of taxable income vs Turbo's - I can't determine why.

I'd suggest you look at a copy of your 1040.

You can do this for free in TurboTax Online.

  1. On the menu bar on the left that shows.
  2. Select Tax Tools
  3. On the drop-down select Tools
  4. Tip: If you don't see the dropdown for Tools, minimize the Federal and State dropdowns
  5. On the popup menu
  6. Select View Tax Summary
  7. On the left sidebar
  8. Select Preview my 1040.
  9. Schedules 1,2 & 3 are included if you scroll down past your 1040.
  10. To return to the entry screens press Back on the sidebar.

Line 6a represents Social Security

Thanks, but it still does not provide the detailed schedules, and not the 1040.  So, I'll just pay and preview, and hopefully get may questions resolved before I file.  If it's a Turbo error it's in my favor, if not, I'll try to resolve.  I am working with the on line version, so that may be why your suggestion does not work.

John's answer was for the Online version.

If you are looking at a summary screen or review screen those show the full amount as income and lump a lot of stuff together. You need to check the actual 1040 form and make sure it's right.  Social Security is on 1040 line 6a and any taxable amount on 6b.

Before filing you can preview the 1040 or print the whole return
