Question

State info on 1099R is not in box numbers shown here. My State Tax Withheld is in box 12 not box 14. Should I just record the info even if TTax shows a diff box number?

Yes if you can match up the boxes correctly.  Otherwise, call your plan administrator and request an updated 1099R for 2020.  It sounds like you are looking at a 1099R form 2019 with just the year changed to 2020.  Here is the 2019 1099R form.  The IRS is not accepting returns or processing till 2/12 so you have time to contact our administrator to get an updated form.  But, if you are comfortable entering the amounts based on the 2019 form, then go for it.

The pandemic has affected your taxes in many ways. Including reporting in TurboTax the amount of stimulus money you received. Click Here for more information on how the Pandemic affected your 2020  taxes.

1)  First...make sure it is NOT a CSA- or CSF-1099-R....because those use different boxes, AND a different form !

2) if it is just a standard 1099-R, boxes 12,13,14 of a 2019 1099-R were "supposed" to be renumbered as boxes 14,15,16 for a 2020 1099-R...however, a few issuers somehow missed the notice that they had to change their numbering.

So match the Dialog associated with each box on your paper form to the dialog on the software boxes.....and all should be OK.   only the box numbering for boxes ~12 and higher were changed.
