Statement of Annuity Paid: Gross Distribution is $6,048; taxable amount is $5,763. Turbo tax only takes $6,048. That doesn't make since; why?

I was called to answer this question but the employee couldn't and transferred me to a tax professional and then I was disconnected.

Box 2a is 5763? It doesn't let you type it in? Or If you are looking at a summary screen or review screen those show the full amount as income and lump a lot of stuff together. You need to check the actual 1040 form and make sure it's right. Check line 5a and 5b for the taxable amount.
