The form is asking for my wife's SS number but we both live in Japan. What should I do?

Does she have an ITIN? When I was in Japan and married but my wife didn't have an ITIN or SSN I did "married file separate" and hand wrote Non Resident Alien in replace of the "Social Security number."
You can't efile, had to mail in the return.
