Solved
The amount in question was previously included as in come on my deceased mother's final 1099. But the SSA took it out of her checking account, gave it to me and also reported it in my 1099. I explained the situation to a SSA rep and her response was that I need to address it with the IRS.
Yes, you can do it by using the steps below. When you enter your SSA-1099 as usual with the full amount being reported. Next you can remove the portion that should not be duplicated on your return.
Open your TurboTax Online/Mobile or TurboTax Desktop return:
- Search (upper right) > type social security income > Click the jump to.. link > Enter your SSA-1099
Other Miscellaneous Income:
- Sign into your TurboTax Online account
- Go to Tax Home (left panel) Wages and Income section
- Scroll to Less Common Income > Select Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C
- Select Other reportable Income >
- Enter the description SS Duplicate and a negative amount (-100)
