Question

The system says box 9a of my 1099-R must have a minimum value of 0.01, but there is nothing written in the box. The system won't let me continue. What should I do?

Yes, you can leave box 9a of Form 1099-R blank, but you can't enter 0. To go back and clear your entry in this box:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account.
  2. Select Wages & Income.
  3. Select Start or Revisit to the right of IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), under Retirement Plans and Social Security,
  4. On the screen, Here's your 1099-R info, select Edit to the right of the 1099-R.
  5. On the screen, Enter your 1099-R details from (name) enter your information as it is on the form, but leave box 9a blank.
  6. Select Continue.
  7. Answer the next few screens according to your situation.
