Question

TT Deluxe is telling me "You told us that Georgia received a return of an IRA contribution before April 18, 2023". Then they ask me to explain the details of the return?

I do not recall such a statement. How can I locate where I "...told us that..." happened in my information??

You can contribute no more than $6,000 ($7,000 if you're 50 or over) to all of your traditional and Roth IRAs.  Any more than that is considered an excess contribution and will be taxed at 6% per year. TurboTax calculate if an excess contribution was made.

TurboTax automatically generate and fills form 8906. To avoid the 6% penalty you can withdraw the excess and the earnings. To find the IRA contribution information follow these steps:

  1. Open TurboTax.
  2. In the search box enter "IRA Contribution Information."
  3. Take the "Jump to ira contribution information" link.

You can also check your forms for form 8906.

I don’t recall telling that and TT didn’t even tell me when or where I did that nor did they give a link to show it or correct it. So that was the last of a series difficulties I wanted to pursue and I will not be using TT anymore.
