Solved

TT will not allow e-file. Doesn't like zero federal and state of CA wages of zero. We are retired and have no W-2 forms. How do we proceed?

If all other income is reported such as retirement accounts and Social Security and you have no refunds and all zero's on the return, you are correct that you cannot e-file the return.

You have two choices:

First, it that no return is actually required to be filed, and do nothing.

Second is to paper file the return.  Print it, sign it, date it, and mail it in.

So, because we have a Federal refund we must file the paper return? And the CA state return cannot be e-filed filed either even though we owe money?  Can we file forms printed double sided ?
