Mark sure your are choosing the correct format - there are 2 options.   Also make sure you have no extra characters, don't enter the dashes; it should be a 9 digit number.

If your 1099NECis for self employment income on Schedule C,   I would forget about entering the 1099NEC or 1099Misc. Just enter the total as Other self employment income or as Cash or General income. You don't need to enter each 1099NEC or 1099K. You can enter all your income as Cash. Only the total goes to schedule C.

But, wouldn't this create an issue?  My husband has a 1099-NEC from work he did (side gig, not main), and it has the payer's TIN, no EIN.  We are able to enter the form with no problems or flags from TurboTax, but once we go to file, it says they are unable to e-file without the EIN.  If we were to just report it as other self imployment income, and not as a 1099-NEC, isn't that opening us up to potential issues?

As long as your income that's reported on Line 1 of the Schedule C equals the income that was reported to you on all of the 1099 forms that you received, there won't be an issue. All of the income is lumped together and reported on the same line, regardless of whether you received a 1099-NEC or not.
