Question

Turbotax doesn't accept my payer ID on form 1099-R. I was told to put 99-9999999 because my pension is paid for by Switzerland. How should I proceed?

This TurboTax Help recommends to use 99-0999999 for the Payer's TIN.

Some suggest that the income should be reported as other income.  Under this method, no TIN or EIN is required to report the income.  Follow these steps:

    1. Down the left side of the screen, click Federal.
    2. Down the left side of the screen, click Wages & Income.
    3. Click the down arrow to the right of Less Common Income.
    4. Click to the right of Miscellaneous income….
    5. Click to the right of Other reportable income.
    6. At the screen Other Taxable Income enter the description of the income.
    7. Click Add another Miscellaneous income Item

The income will be listed on line 8z of the Schedule 1 Additional Income and Adjustments to Income and line 8 of the Federal 1040 tax return.
