Turbotax said: "We're updating how SEP and SIMPLE plan contributions are reported on the tax return. Please check back soon." Can I not e-file until this is resolved?

Turbotax won't let me e-file but doesn't give me any info on how to resolve the issue. Do I just have to wait until Turbotax resolves this issue before I can e-file?

Yes you have to wait. But there's no hurry. The IRS will not open until Jan 29. Until then the returns will sit at Turbo Tax waiting for the IRS to pull them. And you might get more W2 or 1099 forms you weren't expecting. They have until Jan 31 to mail them to you. And until Feb 15 to mail you broker statements.
