Question

We took a $100,000 early distribution from my wife's 401k. $40,000.00 of it went to her father's in-home care, medical, and his funeral. Is any of this tax deductible?

It depends.  If you claimed her father as a dependent on your tax return or if you could have claimed him except for the fact that he made more than $4,150, then you can claim the in-home care and medical expenses as an itemized deduction for the amount that is over 7.5% of your AGI. Otherwise, no.

Funeral expenses are not deductible.
