What amount do i put where it says "your total ira contributions" line 2a has an amount and line 9b is blank

If you are being asked to enter 'your total IRA contributions', that is asking how much you contributed to the IRA since it has been opened.  This will not be reported on your Form 1099-R.  The number is used to determine how much of your distribution will be taxable.

 

You would need to check you records for the account to determine what was contributed in the past.  Your IRA custodian may be able to help with this.
