My 1099-B does not have a sales section, so I am not sure what to select for various items on the 1099-B reporting.

You may be able to determine the Sales section from the circumstances of the transaction.

A covered item means that the transaction was reported to the IRS.

A noncovered item means that the transaction was not reported to the IRS.

'Did not receive 1099-B form' means that you did not receive the form.

'Unknown term basis' not reported means the transaction was not reported to the IRS because the issuer did not know whether the transaction was long-term or short-term.

    Short-term or long-term means:

    • Short-term gains or losses come from the sale of investments owned one year or less.
    • Long-term gains or losses come from the sale of investments held more than one year.
