what do i enter for 2a if it says unknown?

    I assume that you are speaking about a 1099-R, probably issued by the OMB. Note that we in the Community cannot see your private tax data nor the screen you are on.

     

    If box 2a says "unknown", then just leave it blank. I assume that the box in 2b "Taxable amount not determined" is also checked. In the 1099-R interview, you will be asked questions that will enable TurboTax to calculate the taxable amount.
