What does it mean for state taxes to Check for Uncommon Retirement Situations regarding pensions?

    This depends on the state - but in general, it means that there may be certain situations, which don't apply to a large number of taxpayers, that cause pension income to be treated differently.  If you let us know in which state you file your return, we may be able to give a bit more information.  However, it can never hurt you to answer the questions in that section to see if you may be entitled to some uncommon tax breaks.
