Ive been told I need to file a 1099-R because I took a loan on my 401K in 2016. Ive also been told that I don't need to file the form because Ive been repaying it on time and the loan is not in default. Does anyone know which of these is true?
You don't report a 401K loan on your tax return.
The only time you would have to do that is if yo didn't meet the repayment terms. At that point, the plan administrator would issue a Form 1099-R to you.
