I did not have Railroad Retirement, why is $12,169 added to my Social Security income?

Perhaps you inadvertently marked the box for RRB-1099 instead of the SSA-1099.

To delete the RRB-1099 entry from your return, please follow these steps:

  1. Click on Federal Taxes >  Wages & Income.
  2. In the Retirement Plans and Social Security section, click on the Start/Revisit box next to Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099)   [See Screenshot #1, below.]
  3. On the screen, Tell Us About the Benefits You Received, make sure that the box for mark the box for Railroad retirement benefits (Form RRB-1099) is NOT marked, and that the box for Social Security benefits (Form SSA-1099) is marked. [Screenshot #2]
