Yes, annuities are grouped with pensions for tax purposes, but it's possible to have an annuity inside an IRA. 

 

Check your 1099-R. There's a check box for IRA between boxes 7 and 8. If that is checked, it's an IRA. 

 

Also look at box 7, if the code there is 7D, your annuity is a nonqualified annuity. You would pick none of the above. 

 

If you don't have a code 7D, and the IRA box isn't checked, it may be a pension if it came from a former employer.
