When ask To put down a description what does that mean what are they asking for

Where are you seeing this?  Your question posted to the Retirement Tax area, so I can venture a guess that it might be a description of stock?  This would just be the name of the stock or other describing information.  For instance, you could put the description as 80 Shares of XYZ Stock.  A description field will not impact the calculation of your return.
