Question

When starting state return deductions, it said I had an additional $248 in addition to the standard due to my contributions, but the refund total did not changed, why?

There are several reasons that an extra deduction may not change your state refund. If your income is somewhat low, you may not have needed the extra deduction to reduce your taxable income to zero.

If you have tax credits that reduce your tax to zero, an extra deduction won't change your refund.

If you are already getting a refund of the entire amount of state withheld, an extra deduction won't increase your refund.
