We always file jointly. I have you all my personal information and my w-2 info and 1099-R , but you didn’t ask for Fred’s 1099-R information on his Social security retirement benefits. What’s with that???

Have you filed yet?  You enter his 1099R and Social Security the same way you entered yours.  When you enter the 1099R the first screen will ask who it’s for.

Enter a 1099R under
Federal Taxes
Wages & Income
Then scroll way down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
Then IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) – Click Start

Enter a SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM or RRB-1099  under

Federal Taxes on the left side or top

Wages and Income

Then scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security

Then the second line - Social Security (SSA-1099. RRB-1099) - click the Start or Revisit  button

Oh you don’t get a 1099R for Social Security.  You get a SSA-1099.  It goes in a different place.  And watch out for the screen asking if you or he lived in a foreign country.  Be sure to check NO.
