Question

Where do I report my Social security Retirement benefits, and what is the SSA's Federal Identification Number?

I have an SSA-1099-R-OP1, but no FIN is provided.  Entering it like any other 1099-R seems to require an FIN.

Your question about an identification number tells us you are trying to enter your SS in the wrong place.

Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security  (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.

Be sure to enter under

Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099)

NOT "IRA, 410(k) Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) "

The program will not ask for a Federal Identification Number (FIN) if entered in the Social Security section

Be sure to delete the 1099-R entry if it was entered in the wrong section.

It would be best to delete first, then re-enter.

You can remove the wrong entry by revisiting that section and clicking the delete (trash can) option

OR

switch to forms in Desktop and delete

OR

  • To Delete a Form  using TurboTax Online:
Select Tax Tools on the left side-bar
    Select Tools from that drop-down
Select “Delete a form” on the TOOLS CENTER screen
    Select 1099-R and delete
