The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can receive on your 2020 tax return.  If something went wrong or you did not get the stimulus check this year, you can get it when you file your 2020 return in early 2021—if you are eligible. It will end up on line 30 of your 2020 Form 1040.  I think the questions appear in Other Tax Situations.

TT will take you through a series of questions and

If you are due MORE stimulus, it will appear on Line 30 of Form 1040

if you are NOT due more stimulus, line 30 of form 1040 will be zero

Per the CARES act, under no circumstance will you be required to return any stimulus received (okay, there is a small exception for people who passed away, but I won't get into that here)

Everybody will be asked about the amount of the stimulus check they received in advance when you get to the review tab . Simply follow the screen instructions when you get to that section.
