Question

Where is the non-taxable amount on my 1099-R?

I don't see a box for a non-taxable amount on my 1099 R form. I have been disabled from the RAILROAD where the regular retirement age is 60 and I am now 64. Am I doing this wrong?

Great question - easy answer.  Line 1 is your gross distribution.  Line 2a is the taxable amount.  Subtract line 2a from line 1.  That number will be your non-taxable income.  Most times line 1 and line 2a are the same, meaning there is no non-taxable amount.

Why do you think is is not taxable?

If you are retired Railroad I assume that you have a RRB 1099-R and not a 1099-R.

Be sure to choose the RRB type - the boxes are different.
